Winterval returns for its sixth year, having welcomed 650,000 people to Waterford in 2016. 2017 welcomes 20 new events and activities bringing the total to 45, with over half, free of charge.
For the first-time ever Spraoi will feature at Winterval with a dazzling display, All That Glistens, on the Mall over two nights of the festival, 9th and 10th December. This free event will treat audiences to a performance from world renowned trapeze artists and dancers.
There’s also a new focus on after-dark activities centred around the newly developed Apple Market, which will be transformed into a Winter Village packed full of festive lights, free live entertainment, snowball fights and a giant Christmas tree. Family favourites for food and drink include Bodega, Burzza, Geoff’s Gastro Bar and Gino’s Family Pizza Parlour.
Ireland’s largest Ferris wheel, The Waterford Eye is also a new attraction based on Merchant’s Quay that gives the visitor panoramic views of the medieval city. VIP experiences are also available and include prosecco and non-alcoholic fizz, chocolates and warm blankets.
The famous Winterval market returns along with the new Design Council Cabin which will feature 10 designer-makers that are all members of the Design Council of Ireland.
Winterval also launches a new app 7th November which will give the user an easy guide to all activities and can filter between free events, family activities and Google enabled maps.
