Waterford’s Thomas Barr wins Bronze

Waterford’s Thomas Barr became the first Irish man in the 84-year history of the European Athletics Championships to win a medal in a sprint event.

The Irish Times tweeted “Wunderbarr”

And the President of Ireland Michael D Higgins had a warm message of congratulations for Thomas

Thomas who was born on the 26th of July 1992 is the younger brother of Irish Olympic track athlete Jessie Barr. He is from Dunmore East in Waterford where he attended Killea boys primary school and De la Salle school. He has one other sister Becky and his parents are Tommy and Martina Barr.
Thomas’s sister Jessie and his mother Martina talk to RTE on how they were feeling during the race.

There is one thing that we always have to say about Thomas he is one of life’s gentlemen!  He always has a smile on his face and is always willing to help others.  What a great ambassador for Waterford and indeed Ireland.  Here’s to your future Thomas and well done!
